We need to bring back the tourists to Lake County. Some how we have to convince the people that Clear Lake is a great place to be. Or is it that the county wants us to be forgotten?
What happened to the pharmaceutical company that wanted to rid the hydrilla problem? Our lake is not polluted; it”s Mother Nature. Half the resort areas are run down because there are no revenues coming in. Businesses are either closing or not coming, and real estate is not selling because no revenues.
We need to clean up Lake County. One option is to use the prisoners (trustees) in the county jail system to start a cleanup program. (i.e. Painting the resorts and landscaping as the resorts can”t afford a face-lift on their own.) There is always free paint at the recycle area in Ukiah, or even have a paint drive.
Another option is to ask for a volunteer force. I have faith that the people of Lake County would like to see a change for the better and volunteer their time. I”m sure the Chamber of Commerce, the planning commission, the city and county administrators can come up with something.
Once we clean up, we can advertise statewide to promote our beautiful resort area. “Clear Lake! The largest natural lake in California. Come see the beautiful skylines and the best bass fishing west of the Rockies.” That alone should be a point of interest to people. These are just a few of the things we have to offer in a desperate need for an affordable getaway. We would even be able to get state and federal funding once we got back on track. Everyone would prosper in the end.
