UPDATED:

Well, I have heard rumors that the town of Kelseyville will soon have a name change if tribal member Clayton Duncan has his way. I thought it was enough when an 85 year old prideful Indian mascot was replaced with an aggressive Knight.

As an American Indian, I take pride in my heritage and took no offence to Kelseyville High School Indian mascot.

In fact I felt a sense of pride in the way the Indian represented strength, honor and courage. Mascots are a representation of a person, animal or object that brings good luck to sports teams.

Many horrible events shape our lives and change them forever. We learn as a society and hope issues regarding Kelseyville”s mascot, and now the name of town should not separate people but unite us.

To protest an injustice that occurred back in the 1850”s is outrageous and ridiculous. The events the occurred around the Bloody Island Massacre is history, bring past injustice for future cause never makes sense. It is only through the understanding of these events that we as a civilized society can gain perspective.

If Clayton Duncan is so outraged, he can honor his ancestors by constructing a monument dedicated to those Native Americans that retaliated and did receive justice for there people by the death of Andrew Kelsey and Charles Stone.

If we go back to change the past we will never find peace in the future.
