This is a response to Randy Ridgel”s recent tongue-in-cheek diatribe (Record-Bee, Sept. 25) regarding the Board of Supervisor”s recent resolution to help stop global warming. I would like to point out to Mr. Ridgel that leadership on this critical issue is mostly absent in Washington. A resolution at the local level achieves many goals; It serves to let our national leaders know our sentiments here at home, and it notifies corporations, foreign governments and other USA watchers that the populace and their representatives support these efforts, which in itself can bring about a change in mind set.

Mr. Ridgel quotes “500 meteorologists” who proclaim global warming is a “crock”, but he doesn”t cite the publication. The International Commission on Climate Change, a group of over 2000 meteorologists from over 100 countries around the world unequivocally state that global warming is real and more to the point, it is largely a cause of human activity. These are scientists who have no financial or political axe to grind, as they are from diverse economies and political persuasions.

I applaud the Board”s position of leadership and encourage them to continue to believe that many of our global problems have local solutions.
