Has ?political correctness” overcome common sense in Lake County?

Once upon a time, common sense was the measure by which people judged others and their ideas. If an individual proposed an idea to the community that seemed to be reasonable, then the person and the idea were probably taken seriously. If the idea presented seemed to be marginal, then the individual was scrutinized and the idea required greater convincing before consideration. If the idea presented was flat out ludicrous, then the individual was labeled “nuts” and the idea was discarded without further mention. And on occasion, there may have been a tar and feathering.

It”s bad enough that anyone bought into the politically correct stupidity of changing the “Indians” to the “Knights”, but suggesting that the town of Kelseyville have its name changed is going too far. Where do these people come from, and why do we give them any credibility? By the same logic that asks for Kelseyville to be renamed, we can assume that other brilliant suggestions aren”t far behind.

It”s obvious that Lakeport should be changed because there is no port. Clear Lake should be changed because we all know that it isn”t clear. Upper Lake and Lower Lake are actually land-locked so that won”t work. The Oaks have canals, Middletown isn”t in the middle, Lucerne is a dairy product, Pillsbury is a biscuit and Nice is French (which we all know is wrong no matter how you look at it). Where does the insanity stop?

Wake up and smell the common sense. If something sounds ridiculous it probably is. Listening to drivel isn”t necessary, and we aren”t obligated to pay any attention to those who carry such a banner. Take a moment to think about the person, and the idea, before giving them a pass to the front of the line. If a person offers a thoughtful and meaningful suggestion, then we should certainly give it some thought. But if a person offers bologna, then we shouldn”t pay them any attention at all. For my money, renaming Kelseyville is ludicrous.
