LAKEPORT — A series of burglaries took place over the weekend according to Lt. Brad Rasmusson of Lakeport Police, resulting in two arrests being made.
Seven storage centers as well as two commercial businesses were targeted and burglarized, according to Rasmusson.
Police were tipped Monday and dispatched officers to Lakeport Express Mart where evidence led them to a suspect, a 16-year-old Lakeport juvenile at his home. Much of the $750 of stolen merchandise was found in his home and he was subsequently arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall.
Dream Machine Customs called police and other area businesses to notify them about the more than $2,000 of merchandise that was burglarized from their business. They happened to call DFM Car Stereo in Lakeport at just the right time.
“Dream Machine called and told me there was stuff missing,” said DFM Car Stereo shop manager Dannie Carpenter. “And at the same time we were installing the stolen equipment into a car. They came down and verified serial numbers, and called the police, we didn”t let him (the suspect) know we were calling the cops,” Carpenter said.
They arrested the suspect, 20-year-old Edgar Christopher Perez of Kelseyville for possession of stolen property.
The commercial storage sheds that were burglarized over the weekend are still being investigated. Rasmussen said the police are working with additional evidence and hope it leads to the arrests of more suspects.
“Significant amounts of property were stolen? We were able to solve the commercial burglary at the Express Mart and were able to arrest one who burglarized Dream Customs,” Rasmussen said as he addressed the Lakeport City Council Tuesday evening. “We are working with some evidence that we hope will lead us to suspects” he said.
