“Fiddler on the Roof” is set to launch its two-week run Friday, Oct. 5, by hosting an opening-night gala at the Little Theater on the Lake County Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and all are encouraged to come early to assure themselves a place for the show as well as the reception to follow.

Due to Fiddler”s anticipated popularity, Lakeport Community Players and Lake County Repertory Theater have chosen to stage this family favorite at the Fairgrounds in Lakeport, which is Lake County”s largest venue. However, even those with will-call reserved seats should arrive twenty minutes before show time as all seats will ultimately be filled.

Children of all ages are encouraged to attend this beloved musical which features the sensative performances of nine actors in their teens or younger. Some of these young performers have never been seen on the large stage before and offer fresh portrayals of characters everyone may think they know. Even “the fiddler” is the real, 13-year-old musician, Aaron Bielenberg, whose haunting rendition no one will forget.

The beautiful voices of Kathleen Escude” (Golde) and Rod Levendusky (Tevya) will combine for such favorites as “Do You Love Me?” and “Sunrise, Sunset” while a cast of 30 bring to life the Russian village of Anatevka with humor and pathos.

Why does everyone need to see “Fiddler on the Roof”? Because it is the story of a family and the world in a time of great change, a human story that everyone understands told with music that everyone loves. It also promises to be a landmark performance in Lake County that will long be remembered and cherished.

Evening performances are scheduled for 7p.m. Oct. 5, 6, 12 and 13. Matinees are scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at The Little Theater, Lake County Fairgrounds, Lakeport. Tickets for reserved seating are available at Catfish Books (263-4454) in Lakeport, only. General admission tickets may be purchased at Shannon Ridge (998-9656) in Clearlake Oaks, Lake County Arts Council (263-6658) in Lakeport and Wild About Books (994-9453) in Clearlake.

Tickets are $12 for seniors, youth and LCRT/LCP members and $15 for all others.
