Habitat homeowners will now have a little more sunshine in their lives this winter. On Sept. 22, Lake County Habitat for Humanity through training by GRID Alternatives of San Francisco equipped a Lake County Habitat home with solar power for the first time.

Easily maintained, solar panel systems not only conserve energy, but can also offer homeowners credit with PG&E.

Recipient homeowner Deon Lax says of the experience, “GRID Alternatives really made the installation an exciting learning experience. I even got to do the wiring of the electric!” She went on to say, “One of our biggest bills each month comes from PG&E so we are so excited to move into our home and start cutting expenses.”

PG&E has recently signed a check to Habitat for Humanity International for $1.2 million to sponsor the full cost of solar installations on each newly built Habitat home in Northern and Central California. All installations in Lake County were made possible through the non profit firm GRID Alternatives, whose mission is to provide low-income families with the power of solar electricity and energy efficiency.

Solar panels were installed on one Habitat house on 39th Avenue in Clearlake and will be installed in the coming months on the two houses on 37th Avenue.
