CLEARLAKE– Clearlake Code Enforcement has issued statistics for the month of September. Officers had a busy month with 96 new cases opened and 274 total citations issued. Seventy-eight cases were closed for voluntary compliance.

Officers issued 66 citations for refuse/waste material; 24 for grass/weeds; 54 for attractive nuisances; two for obstruction to traffic; 45 for wrecked/inoperative vehicles on private property; three for graffiti permitted on a building; 12 for abandoned, boarded-up or structurally unsafe buildings; 30 for unsightly wall, fence or driveway; one for pooled oil or toxic waste stored inappropriately; two for insufficient fire exit/entrance to residence; 24 for general dilapidation or improper maintenance to residence; one for hazardous electrical wiring; nine for running an illegal business in a residential area per the zoning code; and one for a complete loss due to fire damage per the Uniform Housing Code. Four red tags were issued in September per the building official.

In addition, six voluntary demolition permits were issued in September and 56 vehicles were towed.

The City of Clearlake has allocated $30,000 for towing vehicles in its 2007-08 Fiscal Year budget. A total of $100,000 has been directed toward the cleaning-up of properties and the demolishing of dangerous buildings. According to City Administrator Dale Neiman, the Code Enforcement Department is working on a program to target specific areas in effort to have a more positive impact. City staff recommends the effort starts on Lakeshore Drive. The demolition of the former Clearlake Community Patrol building on Lakeshore Drive, is scheduled for Oct.. 15.
