LAKE COUNTY? California Highway Patrol confirmed Thursday the identities of two men involved in a traffic collision Wednesday. A 2002 Ford Ranger driven by Gary Pitcock, 53 of Carpinteria was traveling southbound on Highway 29 at Highway 175 and made a left turn directly in front of a 2007 Honda Motorcycle driven by Sean Comsa, 37, of Middletown. Pitcock failed to see the motorcycle approaching, according to CHP officer Adam Garcia.
He said Comsa took evasive action to avoid colliding with the truck by laying the bike down on its side and sliding under the Ford. Comsa was transported to Redbud Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
Garcia said the accident is an example of how common it is for motorists not to see motorcycles, and gave some advice for riders on how to remain safe: “The most important thing about being a motorcycle rider is to maintain a high visual horizon?keep your eyes up and look ahead for potential hazards. While you”re looking ahead you should be looking for vehicles on side streets, parked vehicles, vehicles approaching with left turn signal on and surface appraisal?looking for gravel, spilled oil and miscellaneous debris.”
