UPPER LAKE — Rebecca Grupe”s nine kills and two blocks sparked the Upper Lake Cougars in a three-game sweep of the St. Bernard Crusaders, 25-11, 26-24, 25-12, in a non-league varsity volleyball match on Friday night in Upper Lake.
“She had the best match I”ve seen from her this season,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said of Grupe, a four-year varsity veteran.
Grupe also had two assists and three aces.
Other Upper Lake standouts were Cierra Peel with seven kills, Jackie Lovrin with six aces, and Samantha Bullard with 15 assists.
Coatney said he hopes the Cougars can carry over a little bit of their momentum next week when they resume their North Central League I South schedule. Upper Lake is 0-2 in the South standings. Their next match is Thursday night at home against Clear Lake.
