KELSEYVILLE — Kelseyville High School coach Thad Owens doesn”t like losing, but he said that wasn”t the worst part of the Knights” 26-7 North Central League I North varsity football loss to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Friday night in Kelseyville.

“I”m disappointed with our effort to tell you the truth,” Owens said. “I felt like the effort from some of our players was lacking. We get down by two scores and some of them give up. In football, you”re going to get down by two scores sometimes, but you can”t give up.”

Kelseyville (0-1 North, 1-5 overall) took a 7-6 lead in the second quarter on Josh Huston”s 3-yard run and Matt Jones” extra-point kick. Fort Bragg (1-0, 4-1-1) moved ahead to stay on Nick Paoli”s 2-yard run later in the quarter. Quarterback Brent Moyer completed the two-point conversion pass to give the Timberwolves a 14-7 lead.

Fort Bragg added touchdowns runs in the third and fourth quarters, including a 49-yard blast by Paoli in the third quarter.

The Timberwolves went up 6-0 in the first quarter on another long play, this time a 46-yard pass from Moyer to Eli Duran.

“We gave up the big plays and you can”t do that,” Owens said. “On defense we solid up the middle, but those big plays killed us. On offense, we couldn”t put it in the end zone.”

Huston finished with 82 yardson 18 carries. The Knights had just 22 yards through the air.
