We need bike lanes. The recent Konocti Challenge bike ride makes clear, once again, the need for bike lanes throughout Lake County. Both city and county officials have given lip service to bettering our communities, yet providing a safe way to enjoy our beautiful county seems to keep being overlooked. Bike lanes make sense not only for tourists, but for residents alike.
What better way to get exercise going to work or school than on a bike? What better family recreation than a ride into the spectacular countryside with which we”re so blessed? Bike lanes will encourage more bicyclists, thus reducing pollution and congestion, and help meet the “cool county” goals recently set by our Board of Supervisors. Bike lanes are included in both city and county general plans, yet nothing is being done to implement them. Start now.
