LAKEPORT — Auto racing returns to the Lakeport Speedway this weekend as the 18th annual KXBX October Classic closes out the racing season on the quarter-mile oval at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
Seven divisions of race cars compete during the three-day format, beginning Friday. It”s the final points race for the Airport Auto Brokers Late Models.
The highlight of the event will be the 60-lap modified feature race and it”s $2,000 payday for the winner. Four-time Lakeport Speedway champion Terry McIntire of Kelseyville should have his hands full with the many visiting modified drivers. including past winner Willie Thompson and Randy Houston, both from Salem, Oregon.
Late Model drivers will be racing for a $1,000 winner”s purse as well as the “King of the Hill Challange Series” championship. Sev-eral All American Speedway regulars are pre-registered in this division.
The winners of the bomber, bonus bomber, street stock and mini-stock 50-lap features will each take home $500. Also on the racing card are the Pro-4 modifieds as well as a special exhibition race with the Nostalgic Race Car Group on Sunday afternoon.
The action begins Friday afternoon with practice from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by first-round qualifying. Saturday night”s show includes second-round qualifying, trophy dashes and 20-lap qualifying races beginning at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.
Feature races in all seven divisions are Sunday. Gates open at 11 a.m. and racing begins at 1 p.m. Admission prices each day are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (62 and older) and students (12-17), and $6 for children (6-11). An adult two-day ticket is available for $20.
