KELSEYVILLE — Brittany Castaneda scored early in the second half for the only goal of the game as the Willits Wolverines shut out the Kelseyville Knights 1-0 in a North Central League I varsity girls” soccer game on Wednesday in Kelseyville.
Coming off a 2-1 upset win over previously unbeaten Fort Bragg on Thursday in Fort Bragg, the Knights (2-3-1 North) could have moved into sole possession of second place in the league standings with a victory over Willits.
“They played hard,” Kelseyville coach Mark Andre said of his players. “I need to make some adjustments. We just couldn”t score.”
Castaneda”s shot slipped through the hands of keeper Amanda Mueller, who was otherwise perfect on the day.
Kelseyville”s offense mounted a handful of attacks, according to Andre, but the Knights couldn”t get the ball into the Willits net.
“We were pushing hard there at the end, I know the girls were exhausted after the game,” Andre said.
In their 2-1 win over Fort Bragg, Sam Ledesma”s goal in the second half snapped a 1-1 tie. Leilani Augon scored in the first half to put the Knights up 1-0, but the Timberwolves tied the game within a couple of minutes.
Mueller stopped 11 shots on goal. Also instrumental in the win were Kelseyville defenders Megan Andre, Jen Asbury Eline Beck and Daisy Medina, according to Andre.
“They played a great game,” he said.
