ST. HELENA — Zach Nave of Santa Rosa Christian ran away from the field in the varsity boys” race and teammate Faith Hall set a course record in the varsity girls” race Wednesday during a five-team Coastal Mountain Conference cross country meet at St. Helena.
Nave completed the 2.88-mile course in 16 minutes, 41 seconds, nearly two minutes ahead of runner-up Daniel Hansen of Sonoma Academy 18:32. St. Helena”s Tristan Cole was third in 18:36.
Tyler Hayes of Clear Lake had the best time among Lake County runners as he finished in 19:03, good for fifth place. Teammate Leif Tisell was 12th in 21:12 and Jeremy Parks had Lower Lake”s best time, finishing 15th in 21:59.
Tisell posted his best time ever on the St. Helena course, according to Clear Lake coach Peter Stanley.
“He keeps improving every meet,” Stanley said of Tisell.
Clear Lake”s other top runners were Zane Butler, who was 16th, and Erik Hagberg, who was 20th in 22:57. Hagberg was making his varsity debut after leading the Cardinals” junior varsity squad most of the season.
“We had two runners on our six-man squad go down with injuries, so we brought up Erik,” Stanley said.
Varsity girls”
In the varsity girls” race, Hall crossed the finish line in 20:17, a full 19 seconds ahead of runner-up Grace Hafner of Sonoma Academy. St. Helena”s Claire Wilson was third in 21:45.
Clear Lake”s Tayler Whip-ple had the top Lake County finish, placing 12th in 24:53.
Frosh-soph boys
Brandon Hicks of Santa Rosa Christian won the frosh-soph boys” race in 19:27 (that would have been good enough for sixth in the varsity division).
Clear Lake”s Brandon Holt (23:40) and Joshua Blair (24:17) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
“Brandon is one of our more steady, consistent runners,” Stanley said.
Mike Bean of Lower Lake was seventh in 24:31.
