CLEARLAKE ? Police are investigating a marijuana-related home invasion after two Clearlake residents told police they were duct taped and robbed by three male suspects armed with handguns. The men reportedly assaulted the victims inside a home in the 15700 block of 22nd Avenue at approximately 11:05 a.m. Thursday.
A Thursday e-mail from Lt. Mike Hermann of the Clearlake Police Department says one of the victims reported that he was “pistol whipped” in the head as the suspects stole about a quarter-pound of marijuana. The three suspects, whose identity has not been released, fled the scene in a vehicle.
“At least a quarter-pound of marijuana was taken; there may have been other items,” Hermann said in a Thursday phone interview.
“We”re not releasing suspect information due to the sensitivity of the investigation and the nature of it. We”re playing it close to the vest,” Hermann said.
CPD Detective Sgt. Tom Clements is overseeing the ongoing investigation. Hermann said the department hopes to know more in the next few days.
“It”s the number one case detectives are investigating right now; we”re hoping to get closure to it quickly,” Hermann said.
Whether or not the victims had medical marijuana identification cards and whether or not the amount they had was legal is under investigation. “It all depends on how many people were living there, how many had licenses and yadda yadda yadda. That”s something the investigators will be looking at as well. But the fact of the matter is it”s just another marijuana rip-off. These are going to become more prevalent, unfortunately, with everyone growing marijuana,” Hermann said.
