CLEARLAKE — Wild About Books is celebrating Veterans Day with a reading by local writer Frank Taylor from “Iwo Jima: Red Blood, Black Sand,” 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at 14290 Olympic Drive.
Edited by Taylor and written by Charles Tatum, “Iwo Jima: Red Blood Black Sand” recounts the 1945 battle in the Pacific.
Charles W. Tatum was an 18-year-old Marine when he hit the black sand beach of Iwo Jima on Feb. 19, 1945. Within minutes, he became a hardened veteran. Tatum”s account of the 36-day holocaust is in its third edition.
