LAKE COUNTY ? The upcoming November 6 General District Election will fill 17 vacancies on school boards and water district boards in the county.

Registrar of Voters Diane Fridley said she hopes to have the results available on the county Web site at www.co.lake.ca.us. “We count the ballots ahead of time, but we”re prohibited from releasing the totals until 8 p.m. on election night,” Fridley said. She said the preliminary results will reflect the absentee ballots already counted; precinct votes are counted after the poles close. The Registrar of Voters Office has 28 days to certify the results.

Eight candidates are vying for three seats on the Kelseyville Unified School District, making that race the most heavily contested. Three incumbents and five challengers answered questions from the student body and from randomly selected members of the audience last week at a forum held at Kelseyville High School.

The candidates include prosecutor John R. DeChaine, sales manager Chris Irwin, pear and walnut grower Philip Murphy, real estate broker Gary Olson, county supervisors” assistant Mireya Gehring Turner, and incumbents Don Boyd, Andy Dobusch and Valerie A. Ramirez. They contend for favor from the 6,371 registered voters in the district, according to a tally from the Registrar of Voters Office.

The race to fill three vacancies on the Lakeport Unified School District has five runners, including incumbents Craig Kinser, Robyn K. Stevenson and Bob Weiss. The challengers are school administrator Philip T. Kirby and retail business owner Patricia Jonas Voulgaris.

Upper Lake Union High School District has two seats open and five candidates hoping to fill them. Colleen Alexander is the solo incumbent in the race; challengers include administrator and grant writer Annie Barnes, business owner Dawn R. Binns, educator Howard Chavez and marketing director Gary L. Lewis. Vying for a vacancy on the Lucerne Elementary School District are incumbent Bruce Higgins and retired teacher Kay Hancock. Incumbent David Browning and retired business owner Larry A. Juchert are running for the open seat on the Lake County Board of Education.

Lake County voters will decide which of four candidates will fill two vacancies on the Mendocino-Lake Community College District, one for Trustee Area 3 and one for Trustee Area 7. Fridley said that while the candidates must live in the trustee area in order to represent it, they are elected at large. Incumbent Joan M. Eriksen and challenger Larry MacEitch both reside in Ukiah. Kelseyville residents running for Trustee Area 7 seat include incumbent Gary Taylor and challenger Jerry DeChaine.

Six people are running for three vacancies on the Clearlake Oaks County Water District. Incumbents June A. Greene, Glenn R. Rowe and Bob White face three challengers. They are retired law enforcement officer Mike Anisman, retired telecommunications manager Helen G. Locke and highway maintenance worker Frank Toney. Incumbent Penelope D. Falduto faces challengers Beatrice A. Moulton, retired law professor, and Daniel L. Wood, custodian, in the race to fill two empty seats on the Anderson Springs Community Services District.
