UPPER LAKE — Using the momentum from their five-game win over St. Vincent on Tuesday, the Upper Lake Cougars rolled past the Willits Wolverines 25-11, 25-23, 25-21 in a North Central League I interlock varsity volleyball match on Thursday night in Upper Lake.
“It”s good to get two in a row, hopefully we can keep it going,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said.
“They made a lot more errors than St. Vincent,” Coatney said. “It”s not that we didn”t play well, but they helped us out a lot.”
Hannah Johnson”s five kills and seven aces propelled the Cougars, who close out their season next week with NCL I South matches against Clear Lake (Tuesday in Lakeport) and Cloverdale (Thursday in Upper Lake). Sam Bullard added six aces and 13 assists.
Willits did win the junior varsity match 25-16, 13-25, 15-13. For Upper Lake, Brandy Claunch had nine assists and four aces, and Jenna Scull picked up six kills on only seven arm swings.

St. Vincent def. Clear Lake in three games
At Petaluma, the first-place St. Vincent Mustangs (6-1) made quick work of the Clear Lake Cardinals, 25-21, 25-17, 25-18, in NCL I South action.
“It just wasn”t a very good night,” Clear Lake Marci Psalmonds said.
Jesse Sondag led the Cardinals (2-4) with 10 kills, Briana Butcher added four kills and six service points, and Katie Reynolds had 17 assists.
JV volleyball
n Lower Lake def. Kelseyville in two games
At Lower Lake, Mirella Valencia”s four kills, six service points and three aces powered the Lower Lake Trojans in a 25-21, 17-25, 15-10 victory over the Kelseyville Knights in NCL I North junior varsity action.
Lower Lake is 6-0 in league play with two matches remaining.
Amber Daniels had three kills, six points and three aces for the Trojans and Veronica Wilder contributed a team-best seven points.
