SANTA CRUZ — Brenna Sullivan of Kelseyville finished second in the women”s finals Oct. 20 during the finals of the California Bodysurfing Championships in Santa Cruz.

Bodysurfers from all throughout California and Hawaii rode waves just as board surfers do. During the competition they cut across wave faces, performed tricks and attained high speeds riding big waves using only their bodies and swim fins.

Competitors are scored on wave selection, length of ride, and the skills they display while staying in the critical sections of the wave. They also are judged on takeoffs and exits.

Sullivan swam for Kelseyville High School and the Lake County Channel Cats until 2005. She now competes with the UC Santa Cruz swim team and is a California State Surf Lifeguard.
