LAKE COUNTY – As the November 6 General District Election approaches, candidates in eight district races await vote tallies from across the county. Twelve precincts will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to collect votes; preliminary absentee ballot counts will be released Tuesday evening after the polls close.

Friday”s edition of the Record-Bee featured interviews with candidates in the races for Lakeport Unified School District and Upper Lake Union High School District, with the exception of one candidate from each race who could not be reached as of press time.

Robyn K. Stevenson is an incumbent and one of five candidates in the race to fill three vacancies on the Lakeport Unified School District. She has served on the board for a six years and is a community resource manager for Redwood Coast Regional Center.

In statement to the Record-Bee, Stevenson said the district works with the community and staff to establish goals for itself. Some of those goals are, “to provide for a strong Career Technical Education Program, expand the alternative school programs, expand technology support and upgrade technology systems, maintain a full-time school resources office and continue to improve campus safety, access volunteer community resources, and explore means to assure that we meet the educational needs of the district”s diverse cultural populations. “Our district continues to struggle with the impact of declining enrollment.

Howard Chavez is one of five challengers in the race to fill two open seats on the Upper Lake Union High School District. Chavez could not be reached as the Record-Bee was going to press Friday night.

Vying for a vacancy on the Lucerne Elementary School District are incumbent Bruce Higgins and retired teacher Kay Hancock. Incumbent David Browning and retired business owner Larry A. Juchert are running for the open seat on the Lake County Board of Education.

Lake County voters will also decide which of four candidates will fill two vacancies on the Mendocino-Lake Community College District, one for Trustee Area 3 and one for Trustee Area 7. Fridley explained that while the candidates must live in the trustee area in order to represent it, they are elected at large. Incumbent Joan M. Eriksen and challenger Larry MacEitch both reside in Ukiah. Kelseyville residents running for Trustee Area 7 seat include incumbent Gary Taylor and challenger Jerry DeChaine.

Six people are running for three vacancies on the Clearlake Oaks County Water District. Incumbents June A. Greene, Glenn R. Rowe and Bob White face three challengers. They are retired law enforcement officer Mike Anisman, retired telecommunications manager Helen G. Locke and highway maintenance worker Frank Toney. Incumbent Penelope D. Falduto faces challengers Beatrice A. Moulton, retired law professor, and Daniel L. Wood, custodian, in the race to fill two empty seats on the Anderson Springs Community Services District.
