Where is the money to improve Clearlake roads?
In July of this year I wrote a letter to this paper asking the whereabouts of the $3.2 million allotted to the City of Clearlake by the State of California for road repairs. This letter prompted a phone call from the Mayor of Clearlake the night my letter appeared.
Mayor Thein assured me that all the paperwork had been sent to the State and by the end of August 2007 , the paving of Old Highway 53 Lakeshore Drive and Olympic Avenue would be started. She also stated that by having all the proper paperwork completed that the city was on the fast track to get the money right away from the state.
Well here it is the end of October and guess what? You”re right if you guessed that no street work has been done. Then I read in the Oct. 24 edition, Page A10, of the Observer?American where City Administrator Neiman stated to the city council to make assessment districts for road repair.
My question is what ever happened to the $3.2 million from the State of California? Did it wind up in the same place other moneys have in the past? Has the city no accountability to its citizens?? Business as usual at the City Hall of Clearlake.
