LAKEPORT — With the North Central League I South title going to the winner, the Clear Lake Cardinals routed the St. Helena Saints 42-6 on Friday night at Don Owens Stadium.

Both teams brought 3-0 league records into the season finale and the Saints, who had not allowed more than 14 points in any of their first nine games (all victories), were gunning for a perfect season.

Clear Lake led 26-6 at halftime.

“I think they were stunned at halftime,” Clear Lake coach Gary Milhaupt said. “Our kids really wanted this one after last year, missing a share of the title by a half game. Our line did a great job on both sides of the ball.”

Clear Lake quarterback Ryan Richardson passed for 130 yards and three touchdowns, all to Chris Leleop. Running back Kevin Burt added 188 rushing yards and two TDs, and Ryan Lunas added 93 yards and two TDs.

On defense, leading tacklers were Lunas, Burt, Leleop and Justin Ashworth.

Lunas recovered two fumbles and Chris Leleop and Seth Glazier each had a sack. Richardson intercepted a pass.
