* Trance dance, 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Parents and Community for Kids (PACK) Center, 21168 Calistoga Ave. in Middletown. Donation: $5-$10. Trance dance is a ritual that dates back to our ancestors, according to event promoters. It is used for visions, for answers to unsolvable problems and for connection to spirit. The trance state is guided by dynamic percussive rhythms and healing sounds, a breathing technique and a bandana to stimulate the trance state promoting spiritual awakening, mental clarity and emotional wellbeing. * “Nature Readings at Rodman” celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rachael Carson, the world-renowned scientist, environmentalist and writer; 6 p.m. on the last Sunday of every month through the end of 2007 at Rodman Slough Nature Preserve on the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff. “Bring a folding chair and a favorite short nature reading to share,” urges Lake County Land Trust President Pete McGee.

* Clearlake resident Cathy Dion, one of several contributors to “The Bicycle Book: Wit, Wisdom and Wanderings,” reads from the book at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Wild About Books, 14290 Olympic Drive, Suite A, in Clearlake.
