Is Kelseyville really the ?crime capital” of Lake County?

The article that Elizabeth Wilson wrote gathering information about crime in Lake County in the Nov. 16 Record-Bee is a great piece of work. I just can”t help but wonder why it was published before it was completed? I am no statistical wizard. But this article reminds me of the old adage a friend once told me, “there are Liars, and Dam Liars, then there are statistics!”

Let”s look at the inference that Kelseyville has the highest number of property crimes. It may be correct, but good lord, if Clearlake and Lakeport have a City Police force and their “Reported Crimes” are not in the numbers, then the numbers are meaningless. This is much like saying that the highway in the oaks where there are sharp turns is the safest road. Because the only place that the Highway Patrol writes tickets is at the bottom of the long down hill stretches of the county, they must be the most dangerous.

I can not wait for the rest of this article and it may very well be that because more people have moved to Kelseyville that the crime level has gone up. Hopefully the issue of “crime per capita” will also be considered. And I would be interested to know if the criminals are local, or are they going there to commit the crime? Lastly, I have noticed that there are more Sheriff”s and CHP living in Kelseyville then any other community around the lake.

Very puzzling, especially if Kelseyville is the crime center. Maybe they live here because it makes it easy to make all those arrests. You know, with the cost of gas theses days, it”s a good thing if the police do not have to travel very far to make the arrests! Seriously, I”m all for the rest of the lake trying to change the impression of the crime level they have, But I, for one, am fine with the entire county and am very happy in Kelseyville, or whatever name you want to call it.
