CALISTOGA — Life without former All-League center Brittany Rumfelt began on Monday night for the Clear Lake Cardinals, 45-29 losers to the Calistoga Wildcats in a non-league varsity girls” basketball game at Calisotga.

Rumfelt, the go-to player for the Cardinals each of the past three seasons, is now at the University of Oregon.

“We”re definitely looking for other players ? outside players and inside players to step it up,” Clear Lake coach Jennifer Goff said. “We definitely took enough shots.”

Calistoga outscored Clear Lake in every quarter, gradually pulling away from the Cardinals in the season opener for both teams.

“It”s a first game and they just made more shots than we did, that”s what it comes down to,” Goff said.

The Cardinals have four returning starters and four new players, including two have moved up from last year”s junior varsity squad. Veterans Sunny McFall and Kaila Sterbank led Clear Lake with eight and seven points, respectively.

Clear Lake returns to action Thursday against Durham at 4 p.m. in the opening round of the Colusa Tournament, which runs through Saturday.
