I hope anyone who got the chance to see Fiddler on the Roof, last October at the Lake County Fairgrounds, were as shocked and confused as myself to read the obviously mistaken letter to the editor from Patricia Jonas Voulgaris (Record-Bee, Dec. 1).

The production took a cast of 33 actors, 12-plus production team members and seven musicians, none of whom got paid. It was a joint production between Lakeport Community Players and Lake County Repertory Theater, the two nonprofit theater companies that operate in Lake County and have for over 25 years. More than 1,300 people attended the eight performances of its two weekend run. It was highly publicized including three Record-Bee articles and a front page picture.

“What about theatre in Lake County?” There is at least a production from either group every few months in the area, including two joint musical productions every year. LCRT”s next production is set for February at the Weaver Auditorium in Lower Lake and the next LCP performance is slated for March and will be the first to return to the Soper-Reese. Among other places, a good way to find this information is on Thursdays in the entertainment section of this newspaper.

The Voulgaris letter was insulting to the people who volunteer and work hard to bring this age old part of culture to Lake County. It is also an insult to the group raising money and facing the many challenges of reopening the Soper-Reese Theater in Lakeport by implying them to be lazy and incompetent. I have seen several letters Voulgaris has sent to the media about various different issues always claiming her to be concerned for Lake County”s future and betterment. Creating animosity and neglecting fact in her words to the public would show otherwise.
