I”d like an opportunity to reply to Patricia Voulgaris letter to the editor (Record-Bee, Dec. 1). It has been my continuing interest to work, on a technical level, with community theatre”s in the various places I have lived. I am a recent volunteer for the Soper-Reese Theatre project and can honestly say I have never worked with a more cooperative, hardworking, forward looking group of community activists.
I wonder if Ms. Voulgaris stayed at the recent Open House long enough to hear that money was raised in full before any work began on the project? So while the building sat empty while money was raised, the massive amount of work for Phase 1 is now almost finished and completely paid for up front, on time and under budget. Amazing when one realizes the budget was created several years ago. Anyone willing to ask can learn the multitude of improvements required and desired, and how the money has been spent to convert the 1950”s theater building. And, anyone can ask about the hundreds of hours volunteers have contributed.
The recent Open House was an opportunity to explain to guests how the theatre would be operating in the ?Interlude Season”. That is the time we can use the unfinished Theatre beginning January ”08 until funding is available for the final phase. Several events are already booked.
Names of people who have offered to join our Volunteer Pool are being gathered and while I don”t have the complete list, I don”t find Ms. Voulgaris name among them. Please come spend some time with us. Anyone can contact me at SRTech@mchsi.com
