After all the questions General Petraeus answered this week, there are a few I”d like to ask on the topic of Iraqi civilian casualties. Why after years of our US military going to great lengths to deny they track civilian casualties or refuse to release their counts, are these numbers coming out now? Where exactly to they come from? Is the US military doing anything to help the people suffering these losses?

Every study on Iraqis killed and injured since 2003 cites its sources and can be analyzed independently. General Petraeus” data tells a story – for better or worse – and it should be open to the same discussion of legitimacy. Iraqis suffering losses deserve at least that.
