LAKE COUNTY — Finding registered sex offenders who are out of compliance with California registration requirements was the focus of a two-day operation last week by the Region II Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force.
Four registered sex offenders were arrested for parole violations during the compliance check, conducted Nov. 28 and 29, according to a Dec. 5 Lake County Sheriff”s Department (LCSD) press release. The LCSD launched five investigations for violations of sex offender registration laws, narcotics violations and a weapons violation.
According to the release, the Megan”s Law data base listed 28 registrants in Lake County who were out of compliance as of January 2007. That number has dropped to 12 as of Dec. 5. Warrants have been issued for six of the registrants.
SAFE is a multi-agency task force made up of law enforcement agencies from Lake County and surrounding counties. It aims to reduce the number of registered sex offenders who do not comply with state law.
