LAKE COUNTY — The 66th anniversary of “Remember Pearl Harbor” drew a crowd of more than 50 Friday morning. The event was held by the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association Chapter 23 North from 9 to 10 a.m. in Library Park in Lakeport.

Master of ceremonies Ronnie Bogner said there are just seven Pearl Harbor survivors living in Lake County, in addition to two widows, or “sweethearts.”

Mayor of Lakeport Buzz Bruns gave a presentation, along with District 5 Supervisor Rob Brown.

“We are proud to have their monument in our park. The county had a proclamation, it was very nice. I know a couple of the survivors. I have been here for 45 years, so I have known them since they were middle-aged. It”s a pleasure to know and meet them,” he said after the ceremony. “I think we should really be proud of our heritage?Pearl Harbor happened 66 years ago, and it”s just a great monument to have,” Bruns said.

He added that the Pearl Harbor survivors offered their monument for other services to use when they are gone, such as the Vietnam Veterans and others.

The ceremony was followed by a luncheon at Carlos and Vinny”s, Pearl Harbor survivors, family and friends attended.
