LIVE OAK — Sophomore point guard Pete Wotherspoon made his first varsity start and the results were all good as the Kelseyville Knights rolled past Winters 51-24 in a consolation semifinal game at the Live Oak Tournament.

“He did a fantastic job of running the offense,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said of Wotherspoon, who scored four points to go along with a handful of assists.

Kelseyville (2-1) enjoyed a balanced scoring attack led by Isaac McQueen with 13 points, Nick Schaefer with 11 points and Steven Grossner with 10 points. Grossner, added to the varsity roster prior to the Live Oak Tournament, came off the bench to score all of his points.

“He played very well and got some baskets inside for us,” Conrad said.

Also solid off the bench, according to Conrad, was Sal Martinez.

Kelseyville outscored Winters 39-15 over the final three quarters.

“Our defense all three games so far has been outstanding,” Conrad said. “We had a lot of steals that generated baskets.”

Kelseyville”s offense also showed signs of improvement, according to Conrad.

“We got our break going at the end of the second quarter and into the third quarter,” Conrad said.

Kelseyville plays Williams today at 3 p.m. in the consolation championship game.

Hook also praised Holder”s handling of the Clear Lake offense.

“He”s getting better each game running the offense,” Hook said.

Upper Lake 64, Anderson Valley 48

At Upper Lake, Dalton Steptoe just missed a triple-double on a night when the Upper Lake Cougars shot better than 50 percent from the field in beating the Anderson Valley Panthers in a second-round game at the Upper Lake Tournament.

The Cougars (3-3) can wrap up no worse than second place if they beat Leggett Valley today at 4:30 p.m.

“We shot lights out ? we couldn”t miss,” Upper Lake coach Forrest Stogner said of a strong outing by the Cougars, who led 39-25 by halftime. “We played good defense, but we still need to work on (cutting down) turnovers. We made too many (26).”

Steptoe, a 6-foot-2 senior forward, led the Cougars with 21 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists. Kyle Coleman added 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Jayce Meri had 14 points, including three of Upper Lake”s five 3-point field goals.
