Was Sutter Lakeside negligent in handling data theft?
My parents were both recipients of the letter from Sutter Lakeside about the theft of the laptop with the personal information downloaded, and I read the two articles in the Record-Bee.
Thanks to Mr. Kennedy”s article (Record-Bee, Dec. 12), some questions remained unanswered. How come it took three weeks for Sutter to notify people, and who allowed the information to be downloaded into the contractor”s portable computer and taken out of hospital control?
Although not stated in Ms. Wilson”s article (Record-Bee, Dec. 11), it”s obvious to me that the true date that the information was compromised was when that contractor took the information home, so did anyone at Sutter notice? And, anyone who has filled out one of those hospital forms knows that they ask for everyone”s life history, so there may be hundreds of others who had their information exposed, too.
On Sutter”s part, its gross negligence as I view it, and like Mr. Kennedy wrote, I agree that someone besides the patients should get inconvenienced and pay the price.
