LAKE COUNTY — A Kelseyville man was arraigned for felony domestic violence and battery charges, according to the Lake County District Attorney”s Office.

The booking information for James Dean Short, found at www.lakesheriff.com, says the bail amount set for the domestic violence charge was $100,000.

Prosecuting deputy district attorney Rachel Abelson said the amount was based on “the nature and circumstances of the offense, prior convictions and the safety of the public. “Abelson continued, “Generally in a case involving violence, especially domestic violence, that”s always a concern.”

“We assess the danger quotient on a case and argue for the amount we think would keep the public safe,” District Attorney Jon Hopkins said.

Abelson said a special allegation that Short caused great bodily injury to his victim, a woman he was living with, was attached to the charges. “That could be used for a situation where somebody looses consciousness or there”s an injury that requires surgery ? a more permanent condition, broken bones, things of that nature,” Abelson said.

Deputy district attorney John Langan arraigned Short this week and was not available Friday for further comment on the case. An e-mail to Lake County Sheriff Rodney Mitchell was unanswered as the Record-Bee went to press Friday night. No further information was available.
