LAKEPORT — Steven Grossner scored 16 of his team-leading 23 points in the fourth quarter as the Kelseyville Knights pulled away to beat the Lower Lake Trojans 63-55 in a junior varsity game on Friday at the 14th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic in Lakeport.
Kelseyville improved to 3-0 in the JV standings and will play another 3-0 team, the Clear Lake Cardinals, today at 4:30 p.m. in the final round of the round-robin tournament.
Kelseyville trailed 41-40 entering the fourth quarter but a layup by Michael Davis in the opening seconds of the period put the Knights ahead to stay. That set the stage for Grossner, who scored Kelseyville”s next 14 points.
Lower Lake led by as many as seven points in the third quarter. Jaymen Richardson led the Trojans with 25 points, including four 3-pointers.
Middletown 49, Upper Lake 43
In the early junior varsity game on Friday, Middletown picked up its first Hoop Classic victory by beating the Upper Lake Cougars.
The Mustangs trailed 37-32 after three quarters. Bo Sheffer”s basket with just under two minutes remaining in the game put Middletown ahead to stay at 44-42.
Jereomy Hoefer led the Mustangs, now 1-2 in Hoop Classic action, with 18 points and Daniel Anderson added 11. Mike Dawson”s 13 points paced the Cougars and Andrew O”Meara had 11.
Upper Lake finishes the tournament 1-3.
