NICE — A “parolee at large” was caught by a K-9 and arrested in Nice by the Lake County Sheriff”s Department (LCSD) at 9:49 p.m. Friday.

Deputies were given information that David Elliston Jr., 25, was staying at a Nice address, 2957 Merced Street.

Because it was known that Elliston had outstanding warrants, coupled with a history of running from deputies, several deputies and a canine named Axel, responded to the address. Elliston has a history of violence and is on parole for assault with a deadly weapon, LCSD said.

Deputies Joe Dutra, Steve Herdt, John Drewrey and Rich Ward responded to the house in an attempt to deter Elliston from running.

As anticipated, when deputies knocked on the front door, Elliston exited the rear door, looked at the deputies, and started to run. Deputies ordered Elliston to stop and warned him repeatedly to stop or the canine would be deployed, but Elliston continued to run, LCSD said.

Deputy Ward”s canine partner Axel was let loose and caught up to Elliston, as he continued his attempt to run. Elliston was detained by Axel and was taken into custody shortly thereafter. He was booked into custody at the LCSD Jail following minor medical treatment at a local hospital for a bite, according to the LCSD.
