BRENTWOOD — Tyler Hayes won his weight division, the only Clear Lake High School to do so, during the two-day Lou Bronzon Memorial Tournament at Liberty High School in Brentwood.
Wrestlers from throughout California and from Hawaii participated in the event, which opened Friday and concluded Saturday.
Hayes posted a 5-0 record and prevailed 16-4 in the 103-pound finals against a wrestler from Elk Grove.
“This was the first time we went to this particular tournament and I was amazed at the level of competition so early in the season,” Clear Lake coach Mike Humble said. “But Tyler walked through his first five matches and didn”t really have a challenge until the finals.”
