KELSEYVILLE — They weren”t on top of their game, but the Kelseyville Knights still had more than enough to beat Roseland Prep 58-46 in a non-league varsity boys” basketball game on Tuesday in Kelseyville.
“We were sluggish, in fact we were slugging in practice last night (Monday),” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said.
“We would build a decent lead, go flat and they would come back,” Conrad said. “Roseland Prep is a pretty scrappy team.”
Isaac McQueen went 8-for-8 at the free-throw line and ended up with a team-leading 21 points and 10 rebounds.
“We did a good job of pounding the ball into Isaac early,” Conrad said.
Mike Duman”s rebounding and Sal Martinez” defense were other highlights for the Knights (7-2), according to Conrad. Duman finished with eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks, while Martinez scored all nine of his points in the second half to give Kelseyville a spark.
“A lot of those came off of turnovers he helped generate,” Conrad said.
Lower Lake 58, St. Patrick/St. Vincent 48
At Vallejo, in a non-league game played Monday, Kevin Freeman”s 19 points powered the Lower Lake Trojans to a win over St. Patrick/St. Vincent High School.
Playing their fifth game in seven days, the Trojans (8-4) knocked off a strong Division IV team.
“They were 8-4 going into the game,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said. “It was a big win for us.”
Ahead 25-22 at halftime, the Trojans pulled away with a 20-point third quarter.
Point guard A.J. Harris directed Lower Lake”s offense and was in top form, according to Udy.
“I think he”s coming into his own at that position,” Udy said. “Just knowing what to do and making the right decisions ? he”s really beginning to understand what it takes to run our team.”
Harris scored nine points and dished out seven assists. Cameron Dudding had 13 points.
“Cameron is starting to get more comfortable out there,” Udy said.
