Laura Hershey — Letters to the Editor

As someone who has lived in Lake County for most of my life and as an owner of a local business, I believe I am qualified to address Mr. Besendorfer”s question (Record-Bee, Dec. 21) about what Supervisor Farrington has done for District 4.

Working with city and county officials, these are some of the many things Tony has accomplished for the betterment of our community. For the 4th District in particular, there is a $8 million road improvement project for South Main St. underway. Lakeshore Blvd. road improvements have taken place, along with bike lanes. The demolition of north Lakeport”s biggest eye-sore, the Cove Resort has happened.

He led efforts to run sewer to Lampson airport to spur commercial growth to create jobs. As for crime and drug use, where once there were a number of vacancies for our deputies, the vacancy rate is now down due to the Board”s increase in salary and benefits, which means more deputies on the streets. He has been a proponent of drug treatment and prevention, pushing for the regulation of cold medications which are used to make speed. He is currently working on an education and awareness program targeted at youth to prevent their use of speed.

Tony is pushing to establish a non-profit that would advocate for abused children before the courts. He has been instrumental in negotiating with Yolo Co. in order to secure water supplies for our growing county, and has consistently made decisions that support the protections of our ground water supplies. Tony has supported some of the largest increases in Code Enforcement Budgeting, which is helping clean up our county. He has also pushed for standards to have the developers pay for new infrastructure for our community and not our existing rate payers.
