I”m so glad there are women in the historical society with the forethought to request historical status for the Carnegie library. It is great right where it is as well, don”t move it. Beautiful towns that achieve success in tourism build around their old historical buildings. They have the knowledge and planning skills to exploit their history, and manage their future architectural designs for tourism and the ambiance of the town for local residents ? something that would be nice to have in Lakeport.

It is sad to remember lost historical sites such as the old school (torn down) in the 1980”s in Scott”s Valley ? gone forever, refurbished or not, it could have been a site to see. We think of that as one of the dumber things done. This county has lost more history than it has left already. Let”s not lose any more.

A note about the Yacht Club”s desire to have a permanent docking space with the offer of teaching the city council members and city staff sailing ? bribery. Teach all of the county citizens or contribute to the community as a whole ? not to a few beneficiaries in positions of control in city business. That is why there are laws against graft and bribery.

As far as switching the story in the Hughes case ? if anyone breaks into a house, beats a child”s brains out literally, then perpetrators deserve what they got and more. This boy”s future is gone; he didn”t break into anything. He was home. Society may be skewed sometimes, but lets not keep skewing. We need to keep moving forward.

Precedents set the future in court rulings. Do you want someone ? strangers or not ? to break into your house, beat your child until permanently and severely brain damaged, and threaten your life?

You then fight back and in the adrenaline and heat of the moment shoot the attackers, and then the attacker is considered the victim? Do you want them prosecuted, if you were the one attacked at home and your child”s future was destroyed?

Or, should we just forget about it and say you should have locked your doors better, lived a better life or lived in a better neighborhood? Do you really think these criminals have only committed this one crime? I”ll bet this is not a first crime for them, violent crime is generally escalating.
