BRENTWOOD — Exeter used a big second half to wipe out a seven-point halftime deficit and beat the Lower Lake High School girls” basketball team 58-44 in a first-round Jade Division game of the West Coast Jamboree at Liberty High School in Brentwood.
Trailing 27-20 at the half, Exeter outscored Lower Lake 38-17 over the final two quarters.
“We just seemed to run out of gas,” Lower Lake coach Andrew Carpenter said. “You”ve got to put two good halves together to beat a good team like that.”
Danielle Bettencourt”s 16 points led the Trojans (6-5). Amber Shoffeitt added 12.
Exeter outscored Lower Lake 11-3 at the free-throw line even though both teams attempted 16 shots.
“We couldn”t score down the stretch,” Carpenter said.
Lower Lake plays either Fortuna or Calaveras today at 10 a.m.
