LAKE COUNTY — Plans for a new, permanent Mendocino College campus in Lakeport continue to move forward. The board will discuss property negotiations for the new community college campus at a Wednesday meeting in Ukiah at 5 p.m.

Another meeting today takes place at the Lake Center at 5 p.m. for the Mendo-Lake Community College District Citizens” Bond Oversight Committee. The group tracks Measure W Bond funds, $67.5 million in bonds passed by voters Nov. 2006, to facilitate campus growth.

Today”s meeting includes a tour, annual organization including membership, quarterly bond reports, future agenda items and an annual report to the community.

Measure W bond funds will pay for the Lake Center expansion. Under negotiation at the Wednesday board meeting are the price and terms of payment for the Parallel Drive property located nearby the current facility on the same road.

Also on the agenda, the board will hear recommendation to approve a new real estate degree and certificate program in the business discipline.

The college has offered courses in real estate for many years that prepped students to pass the real estate license exam, according to Gwen Chapman, Executive Assistant II at the college.

Meredith Randall, Vice President of Education and Student Services said classes are offered every semester with one part-time instructor.

“The feedback we”ve gotten from real estate agencies is that it would be helpful to have people take the whole degree and certificate, just in terms of moving forward and being more attractive as hires. For a lot of our career and technology degrees, we”ve responded to what the community asked for,” Randall said.

In other business, the college will recommend the sale of surplus property, a routine procedure to rid the campus of unneeded supplies, such as computers. The items will sell at surplus.

In addition, the college will adopt the 2008/2009 non-resident tuition fee of $185, the same as last year”s. “I think we try to be equal or lower than the contiguous districts, we”re usually the lowest,” Chapman said.

The Wednesday meeting is in board room 1060, MacMillan Hall, 1000 Hensley Creek Rd.
