LAKEPORT — On his drive to 1,000 career points, these three certainly stood out.

Tyler Hunt”s buzzer-beating 3-pointer lifted the Middletown Mustangs to a dramatic 60-59 victory over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Friday night during a North Central League I interlock varsity boys” basketball game at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.

Under pressure from the Clear Lake defense, the senior forward pulled up from the left wing and buried the shot to wipe out Clear Lake”s 59-57 lead. He finished with a season-best 35 points, pushing his three-year varsity total to 962 points.

Middletown (4-11) overcame a seven-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to beat Clear Lake (8-5) for the first time in three tries this season. The last time the two teams met, the Cardinals won 87-83 in overtime last month during the Record-Bee Hoop Classic, also in Lakeport.

Jameson Holder scored 24 points, Armando Martinez had 16 and Corey Dillon 14 for the Cardinals.

John Hays had nine points for Middletown.

Hunt, who also pulled down a team-best 19 rebounds, needs 38 points tonight against Upper Lake to reach 1,000. That game tips off at 7 p.m. After tonight, the Mustangs embark on a five-game road trip, beginning with a Wednesday game in Petaluma against St. Vincent.

Clear Lake hosts the Fort Bragg Timberwolves tonight beginning with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.

Kelseyville 70, Upper Lake 45

At Kelseyville, the host Kelseyville Knights outscored the Upper Lake Cougars 23-0 in the third quarter to break open a close game at halftime.

Isaac McQueen”s 19 points paced the Knights (9-4), Nick Schaefer added 12 and Peter Wotherspoon had 10.

Kyle Coleman and Dalton Steptoe scored 12 points apiece for Upper Lake (3-11) and Jayce Meri had 10.

Girls” basketball

Kelseyville 31, Upper Lake 26

At Upper Lake, fresh off their championship in the Stokes Tournament, the Kelseyville Knights knocked off the Upper Lake Cougars in NCL I interlock varsity girls” action.

Allyson Brown and Jodi Snider each had 11 points for the Knights, who improved to a Lake County-best 10-4.

Cierra Peel”s nine points paced Upper Lake.
