CLEARLAKE OAKS — A Clearlake Oaks father and son were arrested Monday afternoon on charges stemming from a shooting in the Spring Valley subdivision, according to the Lake County Sheriff”s Department.

A call reporting shots fired at a Cache Creek Road home just after 4 p.m. brought Lake County Sheriff”s deputies to the scene.

The woman who lived there told deputies that the oldest of three men, later identified as Clearlake Oaks resident Gerardo Castillo, Sr., 42, shot her unoccupied car four times, according to a Tuesday LCSD press release written by investigating Sgt. Jim Samples.

The victim”s name was not released.

“We are not labeling this as a gang-related activity at this time,” Sheriff Rodney Mitchell said in a prepared statement Wednesday. “We are not prepared to release information about motive at this time.” Mitchell further stated that the men did not name the driver of the car with whom the altercation had occurred.

She reported that the trio came to her house and asked who drove a Ford hatchback parked in her driveway. The men were upset about an altercation earlier in the day with the car”s driver, according to the release. The victim told the men that “they must be mistaken,” because the car belonged to her, and asked them to leave her property, the report said. Gerardo Castillo, Sr. then fired a handgun four times, breaking the car”s rear window and leaving holes in its rear door before leaving the area.

Witnesses identified Gerardo Castillo, Sr., 42, Gerardo Castillo, Jr., 18 and another male less than 18 years old, according to the LCSD release. The young man”s name is not being released because of his age, according to the release.

Gerardo Castillo, Sr. was arrested on charges of discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, conspiracy, shooting at an unoccupied vehicle, vandalism, being a felon in possession of a firearm and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to his booking information found at www.lakesheriff.com. He is being held on $40,000 bail. Gerardo Castillo, Jr. was arrested on a conspiracy and accessory charges, and his bail is $40,000.

“Two of the suspects reportedly live in the same home and the third is also a reported resident of the Spring Valley area,” Mitchell said in the statement.

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to call detective Sgt. Jim Samples at 262-4200.
