UPPER LAKE — Undefeated Upper Lake High School 140-pounder Rob Avery picked up two more wins Wednesday as the Cougars beat Lower Lake 61-18 and lost to Willits 40-28 in a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet at Upper Lake.
Avery won a pair of major decisions to boost his season record to 24-0.
In the win over Lower Lake, Upper Lake wrestlers Fwee Chao, Mike Diggs, Brandon Sneathen, Russell Dickinson, Ruben Flores and Nick Phillips all scored pins.
Against Willits, one of the top teams in the CMC, Sneathen scored a 9-8 upset of Justin Mason in the night”s best match.
Upper Lake and Willits each won six matches.
“We wrestled pretty well,” Upper Lake coach Tom Cox said. “Willits is supposed to be one of the top teams this year, so I”m pretty happy.”
