SANTA ROSA — Clear Lake High School 105-pounder Tyler Hayes ran his season record to 27-0 by winning his weight division Saturday at the prestigious Puma Classic at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa.
Defending tournament and state champion Vacaville easily won the team title in the 32-team event.
Clear Lake”s next-best individual finish after Hayes was Erik Jameson”s third-place finish at 132 pounds. Although he lost in the semifinals by decision, Jameson came back to pin his opponent in the third-place match.
Clear Lake hosts Lower Lake and Kelseyville in a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet on Wednesday in Lakeport. On Saturday, the Cardinals head to Fremont for the Mission San Jose Invitational, one of the toughest tournaments in the state.
