I appreciate the chance to respond to Mr. Riley”s invitation to start a Log Cabin Republican Chapter (Record-Bee, Jan. 25) in Lake County. Thank you, but we”re finding it less productive to open Log Cabin chapters these days because our members feel comfortable being part of the county GOP committees around the state, including Lake County. We feel the time has come to end the separate but equal concept of separate gay and lesbian partisan political organizations. Our goal in starting Log Cabin thirty years ago was to create a place in the GOP for us. We”ve achieved that. Now we look to help elect the candidates who best represent the principles of the GOP, including those who don”t think gays and lesbians should be kept apart from the rest of society and treated as different. If you feel the need to have a separate organization in Lake County for gay and lesbian Democrats, one has to ask ? why?
