KELSEYVILLE — With 0.4 seconds remaining in overtime, the Fort Bragg Timberwolves ran a successful inbounds play underneath their basket and Katie Bruce banked in a short shot as the buzzer sounded to beat the Kelseyville Knights 42-41 in a North Central League I North varsity girls” basketball game on Thursday night at Kelseyville High School.
Bruce”s defender left her as another Fort Bragg player cut across the middle of the key and she grabbed the inbounds pass and instantly shot it.
“I”ve never seen that happen,” Kelseyville coach Caitlyn Andrus said of a team winning a game on that type of play with so little time remaining.
Fort Bragg, the undefeated NCL I North leader, outscored Kelseyville 15-7 in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
“One thing I want to emphasize is that we had amazing defense the entire game,” Andrus said. “Our man defense made them use up a lot of the shot clock.”
The Knights forced two shot-clock violations while falling to 2-3 in league play and 14-7 overall. Fort Bragg is 5-0 in the North standings.
Monique Santana scored Kelseyville”s only two points in overtime, hitting a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 42-41 advantage.
Jodi Snider”s 21 points paced Kelseyville and Allyson Brown added nine points. Amanda Mueller added four points and 11 rebounds while also playing tight defense on one of Fort Bragg”s top players, Jordan DeSilva.
“Amanda did a great job,” Andrus said.
Karissa Lang”s 14 points paced Fort Bragg and Bruce finished with 13.
The Knights travel to Willits tonight.
