LAKE COUNTY — A Clearlake man was found guilty Wednesday of an October 25, 2007 home invasion robbery. Judlin Jean-Louis, 29, was one of three men who allegedly robbed two Clearlake men, seeking money and marijuana, according to prosecuting Lake County deputy district attorney Ed Borg. The other two suspects have not been found.
Jean-Louis could face up to 11 years and four months in prison, according to Borg. He was found guilty of first degree robbery with a special allegation that he acted with two other men, which Borg said raises the penalty. Jean-Louis was acquitted of assault with a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon, and was convicted of lessor misdemeanor assault charges. A special allegation that one of the men was armed with a gun was found not true.
“My belief, based on the evidence, is that the two gentlemen were from Napa and came here and were visiting Mr. Jean-Louis, and they suggested that if he knew anybody who had marijuana that they could make a profit thereby without having to pay anything,” Borg said.
The three men were invited into the victims” home, where they drew pistols and demanded money and marijuana, Borg said. One of the victims had a doctor”s recommendation to use marijuana for a medical condition, according to Borg. The victims” names are being withheld pending the arrest of the two other men who were allegedly involved in the robbery.
The three men took a Sony PlayStation and games, several DVDs, a bag of tools in a duffel bag, a laptop belonging to one of the victims” fathers, both of the victims” cell phones and five one-dollar bills, Borg said, after making numerous threats and ransacking the home.
“Nobody commits a home invasion robbery to steal a PlayStation and a stack of DVDs,” Borg said. “This was marijuana-related, and it could have turned out much worse for everyone.”
Jean-Louis was arrested Oct. 25, the day after the robbery. A search warrant served at his home turned up the Hewlett Packard laptop made in 1990 that was taken from the victims” home and the two cell phones belonging to the victims.
Borg said Jean-Louis denied knowing anything more than the first names of his alleged accomplices. “He described them as Jeremy and Alvin, said they were living in Clearlake and described them as basketball acquaintances,” Borg said.
An October 2007 Clearlake Police Department press release described the two other suspects as black male adults, possibly in their early 20s, both approximately 5”9″ tall and weighing 150 pounds. One of the men was reportedly wearing a stripped shirt and baggy pants and had what the victims described as a “Geri curls” hairdo. The other man was described as having a slight mustache and gray hat.
