UKIAH — Mendocino College will add six new members to its athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 16 at Barra of Mendocino Winery (formerly Redwood Valley Cellars) in Redwood Valley.
New inductees are Jeff Schueller (football) and Dale Fischer (football), Desiree Schroeder-Linder (softball), Matt Belfanti (baseball), Yancy Clark (basketball) and former coach and athletic director Skip Hunter in the special recognition category.
A no-host social hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by catered dinner at 7 p.m. and the formal induction ceremony at 8 p.m.
Schueller, the male athlete of the year his senior year at Ukiah High School, was an All-Bay Valley Conference performer at Mendocino College where he earned the T.W. Erickson award as the most outstanding lineman for the Eagles. He also played for the University of California Golden Bears.
Schroeder-Linder played sports at Round Valley High in Covelo before coming to Mendocino. She earned All-BVC honors both years at Mendocino College and was named the BVC”s Player of the Year in 2003. She also earned All-State honors that season.
Belfanti, also a former Ukiah High athlete, was an All-BVC selection in baseball at Mendocino College, where he was selected to the All-Northern California and All-Junior College All-American teams. He also was an Academic All-American. Belfanti still holds nine career records at the college. He went on to play for powerhouse Cal-State Fullerton.
